Stranger Luck and Other Oddities

We Are Stars

I try not to look.
Try not to see the abyss
The silent and empty dark
That carries me.

I tell myself
This is just a moment,
Fleeting and temporary,
If I focus,
If I scream a little louder,
If I am a little bit smarter
A little bit funnier
A little more present,
I can make it through.

Through to where?

When I dare to look
There is only empty space.
Silence
And nothing else.

We are stars,
Singing in a vast concert.
Lovers and fools,
Dreamers and makers,
We are brilliant flashes of light,
Separated by oceans of empty black
Spiraling away from one another
At unimaginable speed.

I long for the heat of our creation,
When we were still together,
And the possibilities were endless.
